Lauri Hyvärinen
Cut Contexts
Finnish guitarist Lauri Hyvärinen is known to our listeners for his participation in Horst Quartet's Edged Timbre released by Intonema in 2017. His work on the solo album Cut Contexts
was carried out in 2020-2021, when musicians suddenly had a lot of time
for studio work. This prompted Hyvärinen to listen and select the
recordings of previous years and, on their basis, create 5 pieces, each
one clocking in at 7 minutes. The result is an unpredictable and varied
album, in which deliberate instrumental impulses coexist with
coincidentally occurring environmental sounds, at the same time obeying
the will of the composer and directing his thought. On one hand, this is
a collage technique, due to which there are unexpected twists in the
music. On the other hand, this is extremely focused guitar playing in a
minimalistic manner. On the third hand, these are field recordings,
attuning to attentive listening.
Gaudenz Badrutt & Ilia Belorukov
Sauerkraut
In 2013, the collaboration of electronic musician Gaudenz Badrutt and saxophonist Ilia Belorukov began in a trio with accordionist Jonas Kocher, and in 2014 the album Rotonda was released on Intonema.
Since then, time has passed, Badrutt and Belorukov have toured also as a
duo, Belorukov later switching to a modular synthesizer.
